It covers all the stuff you want to know about MB, GPW, M38, M38A1, CJ-2A, CJ-3A, CJ-3B, CJ-5, CJ-6, CJ-7, JEEPSTER, COMMANDO and CJ-8. Also included is a special chapter on how to keep your CJ alive for 200,000 miles, and get better mileage, too.
There are facts, figures, and how-to on modifying your CJ for top 4-wd performance. Also, a hot list of 700+ suppliers who want to help you along the way and an exhaustive Jeep Bookshelf. There are 320 pages packed with information, charts, tables, illustrations and diagrams. Plus lots of lively cartoons by Leo Bestgen, a well-respected automotive cartoonist. A Different Kind of Manual This a different kind of automotive manual. This is a user-friendly, hands on manual for the do-it-yourselfer who would like to have a couple of top mechanics at his side as he braves the innards of his Jeep from the windshield wipers to the tranny! Heres the genuine stuff from guys whove done it all: sand, rocks, mud, creek-beds and cactus in their Jeeps. Youve got questions? Theyve got the answers! Fix your carburetor or replace it? Air down the tires or keep em high? How long do you trust your battery? How do I put a Pinto engine in my Jeep? (Good way to go!) They tell you how to take things apart and how to put them back together. They also tell you what NOT to take apart. They include safety tips learned the hard way. Plus they tell you how to build The Ultimate Jeep yourself... from the ground up! And all in a delightfully personal, down-to-earth style. New Edition The Third Edition has 32 more pages than the Second Edition, so it the book now totals 320 pages. One new chapter tells the reader how to go about building the Ultimate Jeep, and another contains an expanded "Jeep Bookshelf". Also, there is comprehensive list of some 700 plus Jeep parts and services dealers. Web sites catering to Jeep owners are also listed. This combination history and repair guide to help Jeep owners understand what makes America's most ubiquitous motor vehicle tick and how to fix it when it doesn't, has been popular since introduced some 20 years ago. It's on its way to being as widely known and respected as the Jeep marque itself. Part of its appeal is that it is written in an eminently light-hearted, readable style that sets it apart from service manuals. A new chapter in the Third Edition tells the reader how to build the "Ultimate Jeep", from the ground up. It is written by co-author Willie Worthy, respected Jeep technical expert who has been involved with and written about Jeeps for almost 50 years. A comprehensive Jeepers' Bookshelf now includes movies, videos and web sites in addition to books about Jeeps and Jeeping. Willie knows his Jeeps backwards and forwards. Six years ago, he had done a complete revision of the book, and written a chapter on Modifications. As "how to" columnist for Four Wheeler magazine, he has accumulated stacks of references listing the name, address, phone number and website of almost every guy or gal who's in the Jeep marketplace. He came up with 700 plus listings for the Third Edition Suppliers' Directory! It meant adding extra pages to the book, but it also helps makeThe Jeep Bible just that much more valuable to Jeepers. The late Granville King researched and wrote the original Jeep Bible in his beachside trailer in Baja California, Mexico in 1984-'85. Granville's 48-year love affair with the Jeep started the year the first vehicle came off the production line. He soldiered with Jeeps for three years in the South Pacific. After World War II, he owned a Jeep garage for a time, raced and modified Jeeps and wrote scads of magazine articles and columns about them. Great stuff! He spent his later years Jeeping the beaches and back country of Baja chatting to fellow Jeepers, and pecking out his columns and this Bible on his Underwood manual typewriter. He died in 1989. Though the CJ has been discontinued, we believe there are a good many miles yet to be rolled down the highways and through the back country in them. What other marques are still rolling 40-50 years later? This book aims to help keep those CJs rolling. |
